A Meaningful Path Forward
ABOUT THE SOCIETY
The Wellness Puppy Society of Canada is a Canadian nonprofit organization that develops and delivers programs using companion puppies to support everyday wellbeing for veterans, first responders, and frontline professionals living with the long-term effects of occupational stress and trauma.

The Society operates the Wellness Puppy Program, overseeing responsible selection, placement,
and follow-along support to ensure that both people and puppies are cared for with respect,
intention, and accountability.
SUPPORT FOR EVERYDAY LIVING
The Wellness Puppy Program provides carefully selected companion puppies to veterans, first responders, and frontline professionals who are not in crisis, but who live with the ongoing emotional and physiological effects of service-related stress, anxiety, PTSD or other mental health trauma as part of everyday life.

Wellness Puppies are placed as long-term companions - not as treatment, but as a steady, living presence that supports daily wellbeing. Through routine, physical closeness, emotional connection, and shared daily rhythms, a Wellness Puppy can help bring structure to the day, encourage grounding, introduce joy, play and activity, and offer comfort during periods of stress or emotional fatigue.

For many people, this kind of companionship supports a better quality of life - improved sleep and mood, increased motivation, and a greater sense of connection - benefits that unfold gradually and are felt most in everyday moments. For those who are well suited to this form of support, the impact can be meaningful and life-enhancing over time.
Each placement is approached with care and responsibility, respecting the needs of both the individual and the puppy.
Our work is guided by ethical practices, trusted partners, and ongoing learning to ensure this support is delivered thoughtfully and sustainably.
OUR COMMITMENT TO CARE
Our work is grounded in responsible placement, ethical breeding practices, and deep respect for the human- animal bond. We prioritize the wellbeing of puppies as deeply as the wellbeing of the people they support, recognizing that one cannot exist without the other.
The Wellness Puppy Program works only with veterinarian-recommended kennels where puppies are bred deliberately for temperament, health, and human companionship. The program relies on independent veterinary oversight of care practices, living environments, and ongoing wellbeing.
“From a veterinary perspective, ethical breeder oversight, clean environments, and ongoing veterinary care are essential to responsible puppy placement. The kennels I have inspected were exceptionally clean, well managed, and reflective of a high standard of animal care.”

PROFESSIONAL PERSPECTIVES
“In my experience working with Canadian veterans, the presence of a companion dog can be profoundly protective. For some individuals carrying deep trauma or depression, that relationship can restore connection, responsibility, and a sense of purpose that anchors them to daily life. While not a clinical intervention, when the fit is right, this kind of companionship can be a critical stabilizing presence.”
